What is Scottish Country Dancing:

Scottish Country Dancing is a very social form of dancing danced in "sets" usually with four "couples" - unlike Highland Dancing which is usually solo dancing. Scottish dress is NOT required to attend clubs, dances or balls and you don’t need a partner to join a dance club. Partners who go dancing at clubs, dances or balls, do not dance all dances together.

Scottish country dancing is a common pastime activity for thousands of dancers in Scotland and many other countries. In Wellington there are twelve clubs and two junior groups which operate between March and November each year. There are Saturday night dances as well as Club nights. Both New Zealand and overseas dancers are welcome at Club nights or Saturday dances. New members are always welcome.

These Clubs are affiliated via the Wellington Region to the New Zealand Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. The Society was established in 1923 by its co-founders to protect and promote the standards of Scottish country dancing. Today it is an International organisation catering to the needs of some 25,000 members.
